When damage to tooth structure like cracks & deep cavaties reach down to the nerve tissue & blood vesssels which are in the soft pulp of the tooth in the canals leading to severe pain, swelling, formation of abcess etc a procedure known as root canal treatment (rct) is carried out.If not treated the only alternative is extraction but with todays advancement in dentistry the tooth can be saved.
The procedure involves opening of the root canal, removal of the damaged pulp, cleaning of the damaged pulp, cleaning of the canal, medication for infection in the canal, filling of the canal and crown buildup.
